Canna Candlestick

We went to Murano to explore and question the ancient secret of glassmaking.

The result is a graphically striking and colorful object; a candlestick that celebrates the incredible skills of generations of glass masters by the river in Murano.

We also made other objects during this exploration. They were made with traditional filigrana (glass canes) and murrine (glass beads) techniques. While the glass master is working on the piece, the lines and patterns morph and become distorted through stretching and tweaking. The result is a delicate and hypnotizing game of lines and waves or dots, gracefully going from one end to the other, creating optical illusions along the way.
