Nornan, Nynäshamn

A former hospital lobby turned into a welcoming public hub for the local community.

Studio NAVET was commissioned to redesign the entrance of the historic hospital entrance located in Nynäshamn. The challenge: create a functional, vibrant space on a tight budget — with reuse as the leading principle.

The starting point was what was already there: limestone floors, enamel-clad columns, and a striking wall mounted artwork at the entrance. Building on these elements, we curated an interior where nearly every piece — furniture, textiles, rugs, and lighting — is recycled and upholstered with repurposed textiles. Café tables and benches were restored, lacquered, and reupholstered to extend their lifespan.

The result is proof that bold use of color and smart reuse can radically transform a space — without excess resources.
